Prof. Zhou Xiaoxin is academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, foreign member of the U.S.National Academy of Engineering and lEEE Fellow with expertise in power system. His roles include honorary president of the China Electric Power Research Institute, editor-in-chief of CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems, and executive council member of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering . Prof. Zhou Xiaoxin has long been involved in research on mathematical models and computational methods for power system analysis and control and engineering applications. He presided over the research and development of China's first large-scale power system analysis software package(PSASP), Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS), and Advanced Power System Real-Time Simulation System (ADPSS), which have been widely applied to the national electric power system. Since 2010, his research has been focused on power grid system. He proposed three generations of power grids and the concepts, development models and key technologies for next generations power grids and energy systems. His work has contributed to formulating national medium- and long-term energy and power development goals and policies. Prof. Zhou Xiaoxin received the Science and Technology Awards of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, the lEEE PES NariHingorani FACTS Prize, the First Prize of the Inaugural National Scientific and Technological Progress Award in 1985, the First Prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award in 2009, and the First Prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award in 2010.

Dr. Claudio Cañizares is a University Professor and Hydro One Endowed Chair in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada, and Executive Director of the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE). Since 1993, he has held academic and administrative roles at Waterloo, earning awards like the 2021-2022 University and Faculty of Engineering Awards of Excellence in Graduate Supervision. He earned his Electrical Engineer degree from Ecuador’s Escuela Politécnica Nacional (1984), MSc (1988), and PhD (1991) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research focuses on power system stability, control, optimization, and smart grid technologies for net-zero energy systems, with over $92 million in grants and partnerships with global industry and academia. He has supervised nearly 190 graduate students and research fellows and authored/co-authored 390+ publications (36,000+ citations, H-index 86), including patents and technical reports. A leader in IEEE, he served as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid (2020–2024) and held roles in IEEE boards and committees. Recognized as a Fellow of IEEE, the Canadian Academy of Engineering, the Royal Society of Canada, and the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering, he has received awards such as the 2025 IEEE PES Ramakumar Family Renewable Energy Excellence Award and the 2017 IEEE PES Outstanding Power Engineering Educator Award. His work bridges academia and industry to advance sustainable energy solutions.


Løken, Rannveig S. J.

CIGRE Vice-President Technical Rannveig Loken has worked in the power system sector for more than 30 years.

She works for Statnett, the TSO of Norway, and holds a Master of Science in Electric Power engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She is the Chair of the Norwegian committee of CIGRE, and Chair of the Organising Committee for NRCC CIGRE Symposium in Trondheim 2025. She has been involved with CIGRE since 2006. She was the Chair of CIGRE SC B5 Protection and Automation between 2018 and 2024. In 2024 she received the Honorary award from CIGRE.

Ir. Yau Chau Fong is a seasoned mechanical and electrical (M&E) consultant with 23 years of experience, primarily in a leading consultancy firm. He founded his own firm, Duriane Professionals Sdn Bhd, in 2011. His expertise lies in large-scale electrical system design for diverse projects including commercial buildings, industrial plants, semiconductor facilities, renewable energy plants, and data centers. He has extensive experience in project management, design, implementation, and contracting, both in Malaysia and internationally.

A highly active member of the engineering community, Ir. Yau has been deeply involved with the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) since 2001. He currently serves as Deputy President of IEM and chairs its Standing Committee on Finance. He is also an Executive and Council Member, Organizing Chairman of the IEM Convention ENGINEER 2025, and holds key roles across multiple standing committees.

His leadership extends to the ASEAN level, where he served as AER Head Commissioner under the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations (AFEO), promoting engineer mobility across ASEAN. He has spoken on engineering collaboration throughout ASEAN and the Middle East. Currently President of the UM Engineering Alumni Association, he received the Young Engineers 2014 Award and remains passionate about advancing engineering knowledge and inspiring future engineers globally.
